If you can come up with a foolproof way of avoiding timewasters, scammers and all the other assorted undesirables you'll be a multi millionaire in a week...:-)
Check out other ads for cars similar to yours and adjust the asking price to account for better or worse and private versus dealer.
I wouldn't mention the reason for sale in the ad.
Could try Pistonheads as its free or relatively cheap for a better ad i believe.
I also like Ebay classifieds, plenty of room for a full write up and lots of pics.
Put your car onto webauyanyoldstuffs online thing (with truthful appraisal) and see what they would offer, that should give you a starting low, remember they will knock the online offer down if you've been less than truthful in the unlikely event you end up selling to them.
Lots of information online how to avoid being conned by chancers and thieves, though i tend to use my ''if it quacks and waddles its a duck'' antenna, rarely does that fail.
