2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee CRD Ltd 3.0L - No kick down - Surfer01

We collected the car last Wednesday from a dealer and drove back 45 miles with no issues and it going like a Boeing when you floored it.

On the Thursday out for a spin and initially no issues with kick down. Went through a 40mph zone and then went to overtake. Depressed pedal. but no kick down and had to quickly pull back in. On stopping and starting again, no problem.

Same thing happened again on Friday and no kick down when you need it, but changing gears up and down, but no kick down. Stopping and starting issue gone like previous day.

Today no kick down from the time I started the vehicle and stopped it. On returning still no kick down. Have now contacted non franchise dealer, but do not hold out much hope as they had never had the problem before.

A Jeep franchise dealer close to us wants £102 to plug it into their diagnostics machine and do a check? This is before they even look at the problem and fix it. Maybe we should have stuck with our 1996 Toyota HiLux Surf 3.0 auto?

Supplying dealer came and collected car for repair, but would like to know if any one else has had a similar issue?

OBD2 diagnostic machines are cheap and easy to buy and use..

My scanner cost £15...which i can easily make back from people foolish enough to fork out £102 for five minutes 'work'. It's so easy to use that a five year old could do it.

What they don't tell you is that OBD2 is an industry standard. All ' youropeen' petrol cars from 2001 and diesels from 2004 onwards will be easily read.

So surfer if your near Southend on Sea ....I'll read your fault code for a mere £75....

Dealer sent the 2005 JeepGC onto Chrysler/Jeep dealer as they could not resolve the issue and although some fault codes related to minor items, nothing to do with kick down failure so would have wasted my £102 or £75! At the moment Chrysler/Jeep are unable to resolve the issue as the fault is intermittent and not showing up any fault code.

Seriously thinking of rejecting the vehicle and cancelling finance agreement under "Right of withdrawal" as very disappointed. Think we will stick to 10 year old Toyota Landcruisers.

Only the fuel and emissions systems have to meet the standard OBDII protocols - all other car systems may be propitiatory – including the transmission.
