Mazda RX8 - Redex - Dargem

I have just bought a RX8. It has sat around for at least 4 months before I bought her. She is sounding a bit clogged, so can I use Redex to help flush the system through? Regards

I wouldn't, because of the possible effect on lubrication of rotor tip seals.

Stick some Shell V-Power or BP Ultimate (i.e. petrol with high detergent content) in the tank and take it for a fast run, which should help clear it out.

Redex used to be marketed as an "upper cylinder lubricant" - is that no longer the case?

Redex now sell a range of fuel system cleaners.

If that's what is intended by the OP I would read the manual first to make sure there are no warnings about damaging the seals.

Redex= Rocking horse manure.

A very brave man that purchases a used RX8 .

Chances are the seals are gone.. but who knows..?

Big tip with an RX8. Do not start up just to move it and switch ioff again ! may never re-start ! especially in winter. Glad you can afford to run one at 13-21mpg for a 1300 cc car

A better tip is not to buy one they have to be the biggest disaster on wheels once out of warranty.

The guy is only asking for advice ?

It seems you just want to slag his car off !

Help or be quiet please, there's no need for this.

Good luck with your car,try one of the Mazda forums, where you will find specialist knowledge and information.

A fantastic flying machine and a great bit of engineering history !

Remember fuel costs dont bother everyone, just none petrol heads !

And if you buy this type of car, you must love your cars !

Good Evening.

You must be a fool there are plenty of sports cars out on the market that will out perform an RX8 in every way and be extremely reliable and as for a piece of great engineering history my God its was a complete disaster.

Thank you all for your advice. There isn't anything wrong with my car as such, I just want to blow her through. I have done the fluid changes etc. Just want to start from a clean sheet as it were. As for owning other or as you guys say "better" cars, I have owned a lot of them and fancied something of a challenge and a bit different.

Out of interest, what oil is recommended for the oil injection system for the rotor chamber & tips? Is it synthetic 2-stroke oil?

As a long-time owner of 2-stroke motorbikes, they don't like pootling around on short runs or low rpm: they like to sing and be worked hard. I believe it's the same with rotaries: get them warmed up and work them.

Did you get the 5-speed or 6-speed version?

Mazda RX8 - Redex - Dargem

It is recommended that they have Delexia 5W30 oil. The engines need to be revved a bit inbtween gears now and again. I have the 192BHP 5-speed version.

Hope you enjoy her. A while back, a friend had an RX7 II turbo that I had a brief blast in. Great fun :) Unfortunately, he killed two engines because he rarely did more than his 4 mile drive to work :-/

As craig said, use Shell V-Power or BP Ultimate, they will clean up the internals nicely. It's a bit of a sensitive engine in the RX8 so it's best to stick to using the best spec. fuels on the market today.
