I painted my celica engine red it had no heat shield in it do I painted the manifold of the exaust it says the paint is high temature withstands up to 300 degrees heat I left the car started to see was it going to smoke would the paint stay or even catch fire it smoked a bit and turned dark red black is it safe to drive will I take it off? Does the engine temperate surpass 300 degrees? A celica 97 st202 cheers?
Seriously I painted it red I wire brushed it down an sandpapered it's a 97 the engine looked tired in it I tidy'd it up I bought a tin of high tempeture paint in halfords it says on other forums that the cast iron manifolds should be sand blasted and tempeture paint of 3000 , thousand, degrees used I used only 300 degree they also said there would be smoke after the 1st warm up but didn't say would it always smoke anytime it's driven nor could it catch on fire or over heat the engine??? I appreciate the feed back we live and we learn it's life's purpose!
The paint on the engine block should be ok if that's what you wanted, but I'd have thought that the exhaust manifold temp would get well above the 300 degrees limit of your paint - so remove it from there.
There's no coating that will survive at 3000 'degrees'-even degrees farenheit! Exhaust manifolds can get to about 700C/1300F under hard driving. I think there are exhaust paints available that will go up to 600C so they might survive.
