VW Golf E SDI 1.9 (MK4, V Reg, 1999) - Leak in power steering fluid hose - help! - Calum_H

Hi folks,

Looking for a bit of advise. I have a leak in the hose that goes from the power steering resiviour to the pump. The car only lasts for a few mile before you have to top it up with fluid so its obviously a big leak.

I am wondering what part i need to buy to fix this problem - See photos below and you can see where the fluid has leaked.

Any advice would be much appriciated as I need to get home for Christmas in this thing!! Thank!

I think you need a pipe like the following:

However...........

One pipe doesn't fit all - there are numerous differant shaped pipes according to which engine is fitted, and don't assume that a pipe from another SDI or TDI will fit (I had the same problem). Unless you're lucky and can track down an identically shaped/routed pipe, then you may have to end up buying a brand new pipe from a dealer. You'll also need some new washers that act as crush seals, at both ends of the pipe.

Thanks for getting back to me!

I looked at the link to the eBay item and unbelievably it is the exact same shape as the I need! The only problem I see is that on the ebay ad it says its for ‘1600 model AVU engine code only’.

I have checked my engine code and I have a 1900 diesel AQM. Would this really make any difference??

I really don't know - it may look the same, but is it the same....? The pipe has so many <rigid> bends in it, to pass around various other components, that it MUST be the correct type. And it don't consider trying to bend.force it, either!

The only way to check would be to go to a friendly VW dealer (do they exist? I only know 2 out of many!) and get them to check via the parts system as to what is interchangeable with what.
