Citroen C4 - Advice please on buying from main dealer - shazzawazza

Hi guys, general advice please on getting the best deal. I need to get a larger car and selected the c4 from my local citroen dealer. It is a 2006 1.6 SX 5dr model up for £4995. I am p/exing a 2007 suzuki which has a p.ex value of £3900 (retail 5k). I don't want the hassle of selling privately so p/ex best option for me. Dealer said they will give £4k for it plus £995 cash, obviously thus paying full windscreen price. Havent progressed any further as going back monday.

Advice on best way to proceed as obviously want something off the price and to pay a smaller case sum as possible. I was thinking the car + £300 cash but is this realistic? The valuation online for the C4 looks like £4k trade.

Lots of advice appreciated

Cheers

Sharon

Check out on Autotrader etc. what your 2007 Suzuki is worth in the real world, taking into account mileage, overall condition, is your car due a service, needs a cambelt, tyres or whatever. Then say to yourself is the difference between that and £5k worth the change. Only you will know that. If you are happy, then fine. You don't have many other options do you, other than try your luck with the dealer? If the dealer senses you want his car and you're not the type to sell privately, he has the upper hand. He has done this before!

I think its a fair deal myself, he's already given £100 more than he particularly has to for the Suzuki and the C4 is a good enough price to start with. Feel free to go in and offer £500 + your Suzuki as the worst they can do is say no but if its clear to him that you want the C4 and dont want the hassle of a private sale he may well just say no, knowing the likelyhood is you'll pay up anyway.

Bear in mind that 'retail' price for your Suzuki isnt neccessarily what you would get if you did sell it privately. 'Retail' price is working on the assumptions of warranties included and things like that, people expect to pay under the retail price when buying privately.

You can get a 2008 C4 for £4299 at CarGiant, in my experience their part exchange prices are very reasonable too.

Or there one with 15K miles for a couple of hundred quid more.
