vauxhall vectra B - key fob - brin

I recently lost my key/fob, and due to the recession, couldn't afford to buy a new one from vauxhall, so I searched Ebay and aquired a new one with matching door lock and boot lock. After fitting them to my car the central locking works perfectly while the key is in the door but the fob doesn't work as a remote anymore. Can anyone please advise as to how to synchronise the new key so I can use the fob as I used to.

hi i have just checked on autodata and it says that you can only programme a replacement key fob using diagnostic equipment

I recall that you can reprogram the key by switching on ignition, and pressing key button in 1st few seconds, this makes the doors lock /unlock. However there may be more to it than that with a replacement key.

You are correct TH if it's an existing key, but a new one will have to be programmed to the car first. An auto locksmith may be able to do it for reasonable cost.
