Madza6 - Baffles in exhaust getting noisy

Madza6 - Baffles in exhaust getting noisy - Tally

The baffles in my Madza6 have started to get noisy, exhaust looks in good condition. Would the noisy baffles make the car use more petrol and lose power and would it affect the MOT coming up soon.

Not really unless the baffles collapse and cause an obstruction. I think the MOT tester is only interested in leaking exhausts.

If you're sure it's the baffles; yes it will affect your fuel economy. It won't fail MOT providing the emissions are ok.

I had a loss of power and noticed the exhaust note was more of a fffffffffffffffffffff than a pfft, pfft, pfft, so I took off the back box and fished this lot out of it: i353.photobucket.com/albums/r370/bathtubtom/S63004...g

The back box was then absolutely empty, but surprisingly, no noisier. The wadding was effectively blocking the tail pipe.

Silencers, AFAIK, don't consist of baffles, but perforated tubes surrounded by wadding.
