I remember buying two deckchairs from one of those big hyperwhatsits - B & Q I think - and the checkout girl trying to tell me I couldn't have them because the computer said they were out of stock, whereas there they were in front of her. I plunked down the cash and walked away with the deckchairs. It's a dangerous trend when human beings are so controlled by computers that they themselves start to behave like them: it happens a lot at call centres.
