1600CC - VW buggy 1600cc engine --- ALTERNATOR PROBLEM!!!!! - Redvwbuggy

hello everyone,

new here. wanted to ask a question about my buggy.

I'm trying to replace the alternator....i've taken everything apart but there are 'two' flat head screws that refuse to turn and come out.

questions:

1. are the two screws shown in the picture what's keeping me from taking the alternator out?

2. how can i take them out? i've already tried lubing them and it still doesn't work. (i'm using a screw driver)

here are 3 pictures:

Don't want to get picky but that's a dynamo! It must be 20 years since I last touched a Beetle but I think to remove the dynamo the cooling fan has to come off the other end.

The carbon brushes are acesable through holes in the casing, these are usual the culprit, (if not the regulator).
