Volvo V70/XC70 - warning message engine management system - pandpoll

Hi The warning light came on at the weekend showing "ENGINE SYSTEM SERVICE REQUIRED URGENT"

I had to return home in limp home mode.

I switched off at home and then switched on 10 minutes later. The car has run well since then!

HJ said take it to a dealer so I did.

The info I have been given says Fuel pressure problem

Is this a common fault?

Could it be the particulate filter causing this?

Do you have experience/knowledge of this kind of problem with XC70s?

Your help would be very much appreciated.

Thanks Andy Meadowcroft

Petreol, Diesel, Bi-fuel, what. If it goes back into limp mode do not push it as you can damage the CAT. Regards Peter

Time for a diagnostic read to identify the fault code that will be logged by the management ECU find and independant rather than a main dealer. Regards Peter

Hi Andy

Did you find out what was wrong with your XC70 and get it fixed?

Our V70 D5 06 plate at about 85k pestered us with this message. I say pestered as 3 Main Dealers failed to correct the problem. Diagnosis was a broken plastic component on the inlet manifold, "swirler arm activator" I seem to remember. First dealer suggested it needed a complete component replacement, second dealer claimed a computer reset would do the trick. This worked for a few weeks but message returned. Final dealer supplied and fitted a Volvo repair kit rather than the complete unit. Again worked fine for a couple of weeks before message returned. Eventually Volvo mechanic did his own "fix" and we've had no trouble 30k miles on, Has this been suggested as a possible cause?

Hi Andy

It is not a common problem but yes, it does happen. It is not that serious. Usually, the filtre that lets the air into the injectors gets either dirty or perforated.

You can drive the car but be prepared to see it stopped, wait a while, and drive again. In the end it shall stop starting. Better get it fixed before it happens.

Make sure that you are not taken for a ride. The parts are not that expensive neither repairs should be. Change the fuel filtre also.

Good luck.

XC is still the best of the Volvos.
