Peugeot 406 diesel estate 2003 - demister/ignition switch - BPBJo3

Hi

My demister isn't working and a friend sent me a thing from online saying that it was commonly a problem with the ignition switch.

Could you please tell me how much I should expect to pay to get this fixed.

Havent heard of ignition switch causing this. Have you popped the sitch out and checked for voltage's at the plug side? Also checked fuses and relays?Has the demister ever worked? Often a case of a broken track on the screen where someone has caught it loading something into the car.

your vehicle should be fitted with a BSI so a guy with a diagnostics tool can go into the live data in the BSI and see if the switch & BSI are reading active when you press the switch, if they are then the fault will be in the window/tailgate. By taking advantage of using the diagnostics it can save loads of time stripping out switches or trim to poke around the wiring. Someone who knows what they are doing could do this in under 3 mins

I bought the car recently and I'm told it was working before. Apparently there is no feed to the electricity at either end and it also doesn't work when bridged (although the mechanic originally said it did).

It's most likely a break in the harness where it passes between the back of the roof to the tailgate. If you pull back the rubber sleeve you will be able to inspect the wiring. Chances are one of then will be broken. It's a common problem on estates where the harness continually gets bent backwards and forwards opening and closing the tailgate.
