Fast Tracking - Ben 10

I think fast tracking at theme parks and other attractions is unfair. Having seen the queue today for the Millenium Wheel, and the short fast track queue I came to the opinion it should be scraped.

I totally see why the disabled should be merged in at the front of a queue. And that should remain. But if I'm going to have to wind my way around the barriers for an hour or more, so should everyone else. Just because the richer amongst us can "pay" their way to the front shows this to be a discrimatory way to allow people onto a ride.

The only winners are the companies that allow this. Fills their coffers. It causes longer slower queues in the long run and makes certain peoples blood boil.

So I would like to see the practice stop.

We have been on the wheel about three times I did't notice fast tracking it was quiet.I see your point,we used the system of fast tracking in disney florida years ago.No extra cost just get a ticket.

Fast Tracking - Avant

Personally I'd say it's fair enough - it gives the consumer a choice. If you hate queuing, as I do, pay extra: if you won't pay more than absolutely necessary, then queue. There are plenty of the second category around - look how few people use the M6 toll, which I do without hesitation, even if I'm not on business.

P & O Ferries do this too - or did last time I used them: you pay £12 extra for priority on entry and exit. For a quick exit that's money well spent.

Fast Tracking - Ben 10

Doing this pushes others further back in the queue.

The fairest way is to charge the same for everyone and queue up the same as everyone else. Just because a company introduces a financial carrot to help you, doesn't mean it's right. They are only making money out of you and others, because they know we don't like queuing, and will fork out to evade it. And the process makes the queues longer making more people fork out to jump it. It is a financial merry go round for these companies.

Say you are queued up for an hour or so. Then people are let in ahead of you, making you wait an extra half hour. How would you feel then. Cheesed off I hope.

Giving a choice to jump the queue appeals to lowest human denominator. A level playing field is just fair.

Fast Tracking - Dutchie

I dont like queuing Ben I am to inpatient sorry. If i see a lot of people standing in a line I am off unless Iam forced to.My wife is the patient one.

Benio, life ain't fair. As the saying goes "Life is a b**** and then you die". Deal with it.

May I suggest you vote with your feet and boycott any event/attraction that offers fast tracking at a cost. That way you will hit them in the pocket. A small gesture perhaps but sensible. A few years back I had a succesion of French cars and was pretty satisfied with them, but when the French stopped buying British beef I stopped buying French cars, since when I have had 4 other, new cars and you can but a lot of British beef with £75k

Stop complaining, take action if you feel strongly enough about it. Have a good day.

Fast Tracking - Ben 10

It's an observation and an opinion. Not a complaint fella. And I feel it is unnecessary to have queue jumping in any form, unless its for the unfortunate in society. I wanted to gauge other peoples point of view about it.

So I put my view across. Do I put a statement across whenever you make a comment or start a topic. So any time you post I'll resort to putting " Life is b**** and then you die". Deal with it".

No I wouldn't do that, because I hope to give constructive posts from my experiences or informed debate, or agree with you. Not just rubbish debate in the form you've taken.

Have a nice day.

Wow, ouch...sorry if I hit a nerve Benio, but if you read the text you will, hopefully, see that I am being constructive. You don't get far in the world by just moaning about something that you are unlikely to change, instead I advise doing something about it, yes it may be a small thing but it may help. Tell the operators themselves that they won't be getting any of your business due to their fast tracking, you then hit them in the pocket. I did the same re the French banning British beef, I didn't go to a forum and "beef" I stopped buying French cars and French wines too. I did my bit and advised the French Commercial attache of my actions. Did it work? who knows but I had satisfaction that I was hitting back in my own small way and also discovered Japanese cars are better than French, as are Third World wines. The French now allow British beef, but my protest goes on.

Works for me

I like you Ben Stu is the type who will start ww3 for the sake of it

If we all had that train of thought none of us would live together just hate and misery. The world is a mess as it is .Keep hating Stu. Peace be with you.

I always pay the extra to jump the queue where possible.

I think it's a great idea. It allows rich people like me to waft past the queue and not waste my valuable time standing with the lower echelons of society who cant afford to pay their way.

Long may it continue, infact it should be introduced in more places.

The thing is Ben, it didn't come across that way:

Just because the richer amongst us can "pay" their way to the front shows this to be a discrimatory way

And

The fairest way is to charge the same for everyone and queue up the same as everyone else. Just because a company introduces a financial carrot to help you, doesn't mean it's right. They are only making money out of you and others

It sounded like those people who stand at the bar with a fag in their mouth, 8 pints inside them, spouting off that private medical insurance & education is wrong because "only the rich can afford it".

It is a sad (IMO) symptom of the society we live in that when one person chooses to spend their money differently than others, they are condemned. You get the same comments about aircraft boarding, usually from those who have just spent £300 in the duty free

Saying all of that in relation to how you have come across, I will agree that in delaying additionally those who are already queuing (spelling?) is not right. If the wheel opererators had seperate pods for those willing to pay extra, that would be fair.

Ben - where do you stand on:-

1. Paying a higher fare to travel first class on a train or aircraft?
2. Paying extra, thru insurance or full payment, to go private for medical matters?
3. Paying a membership fee to play golf?
4. Paying to use an airport special departure lounge?
5. Lots of other things too.

If you have the money, and want to spend it, you can always do better for yourself than the less well-off or stingy
Fast Tracking - Ben 10

AS,

I do not have any gripe about how anyone wishes to spend their money. It's theirs, not mine. I consider companies that instigate this "fast track" procedure at family orientated venues, wrong.

As for your questions:

  1. That's not queue jumping. That is paying for a different part of a particular mode of transport.
  2. Seperate entities. Anyway you cannot jump the queue to the top of the private medical system. Your insurance company would make sure it's fair.
  3. I know many golfers. Didn't know a membership fee entitled you to butt in whenever you felt like. There are stringent club and course rules that would prohibit that sort of behaviour.
  4. Still not queue jumping. Just another place to sit in at the airport.
  5. Name them. You have missed the point. What I descibed was a purpose "built" process to queue jump ahead of others no matter what the clientele when everyone at these attractions has paid the same large amount to gain access.

Just because you have the money to do it doesn't make it a right. I have the money, yet I think these companies are wrong, morally. Take your argument for example. I've stood in a long winding queue at the P.O. many a time. I don't really enjoy it to tell you the truth.Do I shout that all I need is a minor thing and jump the queue to the front. No. I queue up like everyone else, which doesn't descriminate from whatever background you come from. Rich, poor, young, old, there is no advantage. It is just fair.

Fast Tracking - Armitage Shanks {p}

Fine. Clientele have paid the same large amount of money for access to a facility and some have the inclination and money to pay a bit more and get speedier access. Seems fair to me, or at least not unfair.
Fast Tracking - mary1963

I went to Europe Disneyland in Paris with my wife on our honeymoon during school holiday!! Without Fast tracking we probably wouldn't have been able to go on any rides as the queues where like 80 minutes long.

Fast Tracking - Ben 10

What if everyone paid for fast tracking there. You would still have to wait 80 minutes.

Fast Tracking - Armitage Shanks {p}

Because everyone will NOT pay for the advantage of bypassing a queue!
Fast Tracking - Ben 10

You can let go of the bone now, AS ;-)
