Audi A3 Sportback - Audi A3 sportback - is the boot big enough? - emmakw

Hello all

I'm shamelessly looking for your expert advice....

My husband and I are looking to trade in our much-loved Mazda MX-5 for something a bit more practical. We're considering a 2008 Audi A3 Sportback because it seems like it's fairly sensible, whilst not being too dull. We're considering having kids in the near future, and need to know whether the boot of the A3 sportback is big enough for all the kiddie stuff we're going to have to buy (as and when we get to that stage)! For us, the boot looks HUGE, but that's because we have never owned anything bigger than a 1999 Ford Focus.

We've also considered a Passat Estate but at 4m long I think it may be a bit big, plus I'm not hugely keen on driving the same car as my dad!

Any help or advice would be appreciated.

Thanks for reading!

Emma

Emma, I've got a 2007 Sportback....plus i've got a 3 year old so can relate to what you are after!!!

It's certainly big enough for a small family car, the child seats fit in the rear fine, the boot space isn't that big, but i was able to fit puchchairs/buggies etc. in (even if i did have to take the wheels off!) plus all the other rubbish you need. I would say that if you were having 2 kids (and good luck with that by the way!) not to bother as at a puch the sportback just about copes with a single child!

Other than that the car is great to drive, if not a little expensive on the repair/maintenance side...hope this helps!

Don't forget that if you get a Quattro variant the boot is smaller. It's shallower to allow for the mechanicals to drive the rear wheels.

PS- In my opinion it won't be big enough. I think as a minimum you need an A4 sized car and preferably an estate. I have 2 kids, a 3 year old and a 1 year old.

You need a big boot for carrying all the rubbish that goes with kids, you need a reasonable size rear seat so that the kids don't continally kick the back of your seat when they are in their seats. I also like an estate for changing nappies (you'll need to do it!!) as you can just lay the kids in the back easily.

Good luck - with both parts!

Ours was fine for carrying everything a baby needs, including four adults and their luggage and all the baby stuff for a trip abroad when our daughter was 6 months old. Then she reached 3 and the lack of rear leg room in the A3 became apparent, she is average height.

She couldn't sit in her car seat without having her legs bent, otherwise she kicked the passenger seat, which was already set a long way forward - so far that with a passenger in the seat looking to the left was difficult at junctions, I couldn't put the handbrake on and the seatbelt clip on the passengers seat fouled on the centre armrest.

Our Aygo has much more rear legroom than the A3 Sportback had!

So boot is fine, but check the legroom with the passenger seat set in your usual position.
