Any suggestions as to how I can find out the name of the proprietor of a garage I want to take to court? They used to be a limited company but company house web site only gives the address. The name of the garage gives no indication and I suspect that if I ring them up the answer will not be forthcoming.
I'll try any legal(ish) suggestion.

you can write to companies house and ask to see the company registration details (assuming you know the name of the company) this may require a small fee i forget, bigger libraries get this info but what they have will be out of date slightly
this will then tell you directors names and addresses etc
however it is the company that you will be issuing the summons aginst not an individual presumably, so you shouldnt need an individuals name
assuming they are trading as a company, and not a partnership, sole trader or most unlikely a cooperative
if this turns up blanks, you can pay equifax to do a credit check on the address or another credit reference agancy, this will usually result in details - but you will probably have to demonstrate a good reason
otherwise have a quiet word with the local trading standards, they will be able to find out one way or another

Companies House records will give the address of the registered office of the company.
Every company must have a R O. Often it will be the address of their accountants.
Any document delivered to the R O is deemed to have been received by the company.
