BMW 3 Series Compact E36 - wipe - Paul G1pdc

HI. chap here at work has the same issue, he did some searching on the issue and its very very common, the problem is water running into the mechanism that stops it working. He tried buying a replacement secondhand from ebay and scrap yards and found they where like getting hold of hens teeth, and didn't want to spend over £200 plus fitting and vat from the main dealer.

so removed the motor and fitted a rubber grommet.

not part of the mot, only the front ones are...bit like a spare tyre, it has to be legal to pass ie rubber not flapping about. , if you remove the spare wheel, the car will still pass... ie mini and civics don't have spare wheels, and saloon cars don;t have a rear wiper....replace it or remove it....

Paul.

As Paul says it's a common problem, luckily it seems his friend got to it in time and a grommet saved the day.

Most times the spindle turns rusty and seizes and the teeth get chewed up on the mechanism.

Easy to strip out and check, do it soon you might be lucky and get away with cleaning, regreasing and waterproofing the silly design.
