Chrysler Grand voyager 2.5 T.D.I 1999 - Idler pulley - haresy

Hi im new here and was wondering if anyone can help me. I need to replace the idler pulley on my G.V. Its the pulley located between the water pump and alternator. I have had some really high quoted for this part (about £90 + V.A.T),

I was wondering if i can overcome the fault by removing the other idler between the alternatorand AC pulley and use it in place of the faulty one and fit a shorter belt. Any feedback would be really welcomed

Thank you

Very interesting point, but I can anticipate problems inc. tensioning. Finding the right belt will also be a challenge has you'd need to work out the size exactly!

You are joking of course.I would not have thought £90+vat is expensive cars are expensive items to run.
