Car Stereo Codes - Stephen Noble
I have recently bought a 2nd hand Citron AX as a run around.

Saddly the radio does not work because it is coded and the previous careful lady owner did not know the code!

Can any one recommend a DIY fix for this problem or is it of to the citron dealer or local auto electric?

Some blue spot radios can reset themselves if you can leave them on for 30 mins, but some dealers will sent them off for £20. My advice would be to buy a new sound system
Re: Car Stereo Codes - honest john
Look up 'Car audio specialists' in Yellow Pages and visit one of them to get the radio recoded. Should cost you between £20 and £40.

We bought a ZX for use in our training fleet and lost the radio code when the battery was disconnected by a student. We approached our local Citroen agent who was able to give us the code after we gave him the VIN number, it took a couple of days, but at no cost and it worked. It was all to no avail though because when it happened again later the little dears tried to guess the code and exceeded the maximum number of attempts, which I think is twenty, we haven't bothered with it since

old ford stereos could be 'cracked' by putting them in the freezer which broke some component - it would work, but you couldn't set any stations, the tape still worked though.

Any Citroen dealer should be able to provide you with the code - at minimal cost even if it does take him two or three days.
We always insist on proof of ownership i.e Registration Document and some form of identification before releasing the code.
Best of luck!

We had to get the code to an Escort a wee while back and the Ford dealership did it for £15.

We can obtain the radio codes for Rover Vehicles instantly and only charge £5! Are we too cheap, perhaps?
Re: Car Stereo Codes - Stuart Bruce
No David a bluey is the going rate round here too. HJ is obviously talking London prices. Lets face it if you live in a half mill pound house you can afford 30 quid for a 5 quid job.
Car Stereo Codes & skint people - David Lacey
Yeah suppose that's true Stuart - it's all relative.
Down here in Somerset/Devon all the farmers are skint due to F&MD this has a knock on effect so I doubt very much we'd get away with charging £15-odd for a radio code

I don't know where you live but if you are likely to be in the Bristol area contact:

AK Securities (Andy) 07831 782722. He did a very quick and professional job on my Xantia, but does need to see proof of ownership.
