Passat CC vs Audi A4 vs BMW 3 Series????? - davewhmarshall
Hi there. Looking for some insight into why you might choose to buy a passatt cc over the audi or bmw. is it to do with being a smarter choice or being less ostentasious etc. all help appreciated :-)

I suspect if you have to ask why you'd want one, you probably don't! The CC is a design-first niche product, so certain people will want one for the way it looks alone. You'd have to be planning to use the car mainly one- or two-up, so the reduced boot and rear seat would not concern you.

I have to admit that the CC appeals to me in a way the A4 and the 3 - and for that matter the regular Passat - do not. But then I have the luxury of another car for family bus duties, so mine is mostly for solo trips - and it's debatable whether I could justify replacing my S60 with anything comparably svelte, but never mind. If I do find myself looking, I will try the CC - before buying another Volvo.

Styling is the only reason.

Am interested in one but have to wait for another 2 years to swop the Octavia. Having just looked at the numbers the octavia with the 2.0D is faster, cheaper, more economical and has more space than the equivalent Passat or Pasat CC . . . .

Passat CC looks better though.

Both faster and more economical? Aren't the engines basically the same? Is the Passat significantly heavier, or has a higher Cd factor?

4 reasons I would maybe pick a Passat CC over a BMW 3 or Audi A4 would be;

1. For the price of a good spec CC you would be sitting in a fairly bland and lower powered BMW or Audi.

2. If I had a BMW or Audi for the last 3 or 4 company car choices I would be looking for a change.

3. All three cars are sales rep type vehicles and so rear wheel drive "benefits" don't really come into the equation whilst driving down the M6 ruling out a low end diesel BMW.

4. The CC is a bit of a left field choice for a reps car.

I'd suggest it might depend on the engine choice ? I've driven the A4 and drive a 3 Series, can't comment on the CC although I've driven a standard Passatt.

BMW 3 Series have very good lease rates at the moment (on my company's scheme anyhow), my 330d costs about the same as a CR170 A4 and (in my experience) is almost as economical and not much worse on Tax, moreover it is in a different league from a performance and handling perspective, which even in the normal day to day 'trog' can put a smile on your face. RWD is noticeably 'nicer' in my version of the 3 Series, with sensible wheels it was OK in the snow too.

The A4 B8 is a lot nicer than the A4 B7 (which I had previously) and the CR engine is much better than the PD one, quite hard to choose between an A4 and a 4 Cylinder 3 series I guess ?

The Passatt CC looks nice, but in the end it's still a VW - good if you're comparing to Vauxhall or maybe Ford, perhaps on the same 'snob level' as a Honda, this would probably be my second choice after a 6 cylinder BMW.

Had the choice of Passat cc, audi a4, Mazda 6, Honda accord, Ford Mondeo, VX Insignia and Saab 9-3

I went for the Passat cc with DSG and I am extremely happy with it. Looks fantastic, drives great, excellent MPG and MaSSIVe bOOT
