Hi guys,
I haven't had my own car insurance for 18 months now but have been a named driver on the wife's car... (nothing sneaky, I didn't need a car for work so it was the most sensible option)...
I am now about to get a car and insure it again so I would like to know if my no claims bonus from 18 months ago will still be valid?
Thanks

Only your old insurance company can answer that question. Most give you two years, some as many as four.

I thinks its normally about 2 years, I'm sure mine was about an 18 month gap when I got another car and the old Insurance Company came up with a letter of proof...
|
So its only a case of how long back the old insurance co's records can prove your NCB?
I though there might be a restriction by the new insurance co or "the insurance gods" saying "we do not accept NCB ovber x years old"

No it isn't

The above is more like it. Most insurers won't accept any proof of NCB over two years although a few will. This is governed by your new insurers policies.

Insurance companies are okay if you talk to them directly, when I came off company car insurance (NO NCB for four years) I got a letter from the company saying there had been no incidents and then negotiated a "discretionary" NCB. As pointed out above those I doubt if 18 months will be a prob.

Acceptance of old NCB is down the the new insurer. I've seen as short as 6 months quoted, up to a couple of years.
The easiest would be to consider going back to your previous insurer.
