Crazy finance deal & "non passed driver" - oilrag
Way back in around 1970 a mate of a mate - who I met occasionally had a desire for a brand new car. He earned very little and there was no way he could afford `regular` finance.

However, one day he turned up in a brand new Ford Escort.

The horror story is, that he had managed to find finance over 10yrs - but was paying back more than three times the cash price of the car. It might have been more - I seem to remember it was £10,000+.
He had it for many years - looking after it with a leather at the slightest sign of rain - but knowing little else in the way of care.

I then lost touch. Incidentally, his mother (he lived at home aged around 25) referred to him as a "non passed driver" - we assumed he had no insurance either and there was debate over whether we should turn him in - in case he hit any of us - although we never did.
