98 1.9 Oil light problem. - Colin J
Got an old faithful 1998 vw caddy, i am having trouble with the oil pressure light the light comes on with a warning buzzer intermittently seems plenty of torque in the old girl yet,had serviced 2 weeks ago and this problem seemed to have arose since then unless it was a coincidence,i would be very grateful for any advice from anyone on the forum.

Does it come on randomly or just at tickover? If only at idle could be low oil pressure, if it comes on in normal driving, assuming there is plenty of oil in it, the sensor is probably faulty.

Hi Peter, Double checked the oil level thats ok,tried a new sensor toady and that stayed on permently "HELP"

If its a single connection sensor try earthing the wire and see if that puts the light out, if so the new sensor is faulty or the oil supply to it restricted.

Did have a problem,tho' not on a VW,with the pressure relief valve sticking open after an oil change.

Took the caddy on a run today for approx 10 miles and the oil warning light and buzzer did come on until about 2 miles from home.
