You should have taken the hotel voucher. The MOT vouchers are often cons because can they can only be used in 'dubious' places.

2001 Primera 2l petrol, not boy racer but is is IG 13 I believe so I suppose that counts against it. Is PE4 an iffy post code? How do I find out. I know it's not all that desirable...but iffy?

www.carinsuranceexplained.com/car_insurance_explai...m :)
I live in one of the better parts of Manchester, but its so risky it is down as refer!
That said I know I could leave my doors unlocked and a sat nav on show and nobody would bat an eye lid :) However travel just half a mile down the road and I worry it will be burnt out when I go back for it.
I think it is a lot more complicated than just crime too. There are a lot rougher post codes on there which are less risky.

According to my list PE4 is rated B on an A (best) to F (worst) scale, so postcode shouldn't be the problem. Although my postcode ratings are a few years old, so it's possible things could have changed.
In my experience postcode is usually one of the bigger factors in insurance cost, after age.

I wish they were updated, car crime in my area has fallen massively in the past fives years :(

< car crime in my area has fallen massively in the past fives years >
correction , REPORTED car crime has fallen , if you have a minor theft/damage , there is no point in reporting it to your insurance Co, as this will then cost you more

I was talking about police statistics, in fact general crime is down 30% in the past year alone in my area and Manchester as a hole is a lot less rough than it was ten years ago. A lot of serious crime now is drug dealers and drug users.
That said there is still far too much crime and there are still certain areas where I automaticaly lock the doors if I drive through it.
That said due to the nature of my job I do sometimes have to drive to rough areas AND I do worry about vandalism.

I lock my car all the time. I programmed the last two to do it automatically but never figured out the same on the Mazda6. Also had two stage unlocking on the Passat and programmed the Mondeo for the same.
We used to have an office near Manchester airport. Laptops got stolen from the boot when someone unlocked the car and the laptop got taken between putting it in the boot and getting in the car. So I used to re-lock the Passat and unlock only the drivers door to be sure someone was not about to dash out!
I remember when Hulme was still high-rise and semi-automatics were fired when people queued for FAC 51 (the Haçienda). Years later when it reopened again it was fun to have hired the place for students and could tell the BIG bouncers where to go ;-) That was amusing.
Back to topic.... for the last few years we got a better deal with the current insurer after doing online quotes with them. They weren't the cheapest but handled two non-fault claims very well and were worth the small extra.

I was always just that little bit too young for the Hacienda, I was 15 when it closed.
I also remember the old Hulme very well, remember going past the crescents and wondering how people could live in such horrible conditions (this would have been circa 1995 when they were mostly empty). It is the Hulme/Moss Side area I worry about driving through. Not because of the shootings (which are rare anyway) but just because I some how don't feel very safe.
On the other hand if I was to park in your area I probably wouldn't even bother locking the car, which I know is very false security. I have left my car open outside my house with my sat nav in the glove box in the past! I do now lock the car all the time though.
My dad has a theory that he would rather the theif opened the door to get what they want rather than smash a window which may also be true.
All I keep in my car now is some cables (ethernet etc) and some outdated anti virus software I cannot shift!
I do have to carry computers all the time but my insurance knows about that and I am specificity insured against goods in transit relating to business matters. That said I never want to have to make a claim.
If I need to go into a rough estate for a job (one in Stretford comes to mind) I just park up on a nice big busy road and walk to it.
I will never really understand car insurance and is probably because I do understand statistics.

Hulme improved after they got rid of the Crescents. Popular/cheap accommodation with students when I was a student in Manchester.

I would lock the car. It was from this house my keys were stolen and I lost a 6 month old Golf GTi 1.8T (company car) which was never seen again.
It's not happened for about 6 years but we also had a spate of car theft at gunpoint. Basically have a nice area, with nice cars etc.... and you're at risk of those wanting to steal it.
Which is why I won't buy a flash car even though I could. And next week I could temporarily buy a very flash car (between house sale and purchase).... I wonder if I can get a few test drives based on my bank balance? :-)

If you normally buy TPF&T try Comprehensive at the same time!
My 2nd car Group 15 (11 yrs old) Comp policy was £125 with a £250 excess
TPF&T with the same details/same company was £170!!
I appreciate that if the car is in an accident I will get buttons for the car but the Comp policy covers windscreen damage with a £50 excess - it was nigh on £400 to replace 12/15 mths ago - about half the value of the car.
