99 1.6 immobiliser on car won't turn off - Jedguard
Hi

I have come out to the car and my car wont turn on (Y-reg focus) i think its the immobiliser because its just ticking and the light above the clock flashes with every click - how do i reset it or start the car?

Sounds more like a flat battery to me.Try a jump start with leads or re-charge the battery.hth

Hi we have just tried it with a neighbours car but still just clicks?..... any ideas? I read that if you leave the key in for half an hour then it will reset the codes etc - is that right or not?

Thanks (coz Im sat in the car now on my laptop lol) -Sad I know!

As I turn it again to try and turn it on - it clicks and as i return it to the "0" position it dings? any ideas - thanks

Sure does sound like a low battery or poor connections to it or possibly a starter fault.Are the headlights working at full brightness?

yes the lights come on - i wouldnt say they were really bright but they do come on in high beam?

I dont understand though if it was the battery why it didnt work when we just linked it to the next door neighbours car?

Probably because your jump leads are trash or the fault is elswhere.Immobilser fault is very unlikely.hth

Thanks for your help - any idea of the best course of action? - get the aa / rac to look at it?- how much would it cost for a replacement starter motor?

If it clicks when you turn the key to position II but doesn't turn the starter motor then it could be the starter solenoid, but first check what voltage you're getting from your battery, it should be around 12.6 v if the battery is ok.

The head lights test is a bit poor. My dads car had this same problem and I checked the lights and they were full brightness and the battery was reading 13 volts. My mechanic managed to push start it, fitted a new battery and its started instantly ever since.

But by doing those tests I was convinced the battery was fine.
