Dear members of this society,
I am viewing a 'W' reg Jimny today as a 'dog' vehicle for my Labrador activities. It is an Auto with 110k under it's belt. It will be over a pit for a proper viewing etc. Apart from the obvious is anybody aware of any little foibles that I should be aware of. I think I recall a comment in the dark and distant past of having to change something in the fuel tank!!?? at this age. I know that sounds a bit vague, bit I have a niggle in my memory somewhere.
All help appreciated as usual. By the way it's a £1,000
Regards.........Martin.

Without knowing what it had been used for over those 110k miles I'd be taking a very hard look underneath, testing the springs, checking out the suspension and chassi for any damage... get someone who is a 4x4 expert to accompany you...
Definitely one to be very very cautious about!

I doubt that any automatic Jimny has been used for weekend excursions on Dartmoor the hard way, but after 110K miles there will be things that should have been replaced. Look for worn ball swivels at the front and watch out for any steering judder on a test drive since even small amounts of wear or imbalance are amplified in Jimnys. Our auto Jimny has had nothing go wrong in three years but is a more recent model. If a towbar is fitted, try to find out what it has been towing. The original lady owner of ours sold it after a couple of weeks when it was explained to her that it was not going to pull a horsebox (I would have blamed the selling dealer for that bit of misinformation). It is great for athletic dogs but a ramp might be needed for older mutts. The seats do pull out with a hefty tug according to the instructions I picked up on the internet. Suzuki sell a moulded cover in France for the whole rear compartment but not in the UK. Aftermarket ones are available at a hefty price if a muddy dog becomes an issue. The auto Jimny is a great little car for knocking about in locally and surprisingly agile off-road. It has a magnetic rear for artics when you hit a motorway incline. Expect 30-32 mpg.

Done deal. OK underneath. Goes well 4x4 works.

Assistance required. Tyre pressures not listed in manual, but states they are on the tyre panel or some such thing. Can't locate. AND I am going to need another key (central locking) and I am informed it has some kind of chip in it. Will this be a Main agent job or do one of you lot know a more cost effective source.
Best regards as ever...............Martin.

Run by a Swedish guy called Boris Ekner, but in English.
Go to 'Tips and Trix' in the forum - you'll find access to the 600Mb Workshop manual there.
I presume the tyre pressure plate will be on either driver or passenger door pillar, below the striker plate for the lock ?

Tyre pressures shown for the 05MY auto are 23 psi front and 26 rear which would have been for Bridgestones, I expect. We run 25 front and 27 rear for Nokian WR 205/70 x 15s which are an all-season winter tyre, if that makes sense. The original fit Bridgestones were awful in icy conditions.

Found the info. I have 4 Bridgestone's on there about 1/10 used I would say. Sticks like you know what in the dry, but have yet to experience wet or indeed, Icy. If I keep it Off road tyres next I guess.
Thanks 'H'. MD
