Dear all
my family has a vehicle that was never declared off the road, but has not been driven off the property for more than a year (possibly even 2!). We would now like to take advantage of the scrappage scheme but we are afraid that if we use said car it will flag up as never having been declared off the road and we will be stung for a massive fine.
Is there anyway to get around this or have we made ourselves ineligible to selling the thing and should just get a local scrap company to take it away (they dont seem to ask too many questions.).
many thanks for any help you can give me!

the registered keeper is responsible for getting the vehicle SORNed , any back tax owing will have to be met as far as i know

To qualify for scrappage I think it needs either a valid MOT or road tax. You have neither so it cannot be traded under the scrappage scheme anyway.
I am surprised you never got chased for the car being untaxed - without declaring it SORN you'd get DVLA on to you.

The point of the scrappage scheme is to take 'bangers' of the road not to take rusting heaps off peoples drive ways. This why it has to be taxed and MOT'ed.

some decent bangers at that eh too rattle

Which is why I put it in inverted commas :).

You cannot sell it either you know - just trade it in for a new car in the name of the owner of the car. For scrappage you have to have had the car in your name for at least 12 months. And roadworthy.
