Licensing, ours

My partner recently moved to the UK from the US and is insured on my car under her US licence. I understand that driving on a foreign licence is permissible for a period of up to 1 year from the date of entry into the UK. Does this 1 year period get reset every time she exits and then re-enters the UK or is it fixed from the time she first enters the UK and is first insured?

12 months from last entry as a visitor. 12 months from becoming a resident, those 12 months starting from the date the person first took residence and is unaffected by periods out of the UK.
