There was a half page ad in Saturday's Telegraph for a company called
www.carsboughtforcash.com

Has anyone tried them?

I ran a couple of cars through the search process and the prices seemed, at first sight, to be halfway reasonable.

I did a search on the forum first, but could find no reference to the company. No doubt I will be told I didn't look properly!

There's been a few threads featuring webuyanycar.com, which I guess do the same sort of thing, if that's any use - just search for webuyanycar.

From the site:

"* The prices shown are purely guide prices only and are not guaranteed purchase prices. The actual market price of any car is always indicative of the current market and desirability and negotiation of actual purchase prices will depend upon these factors."

Read that as you will.

companies like these really undervalue cars, would recommend trying to sell privately and if you are desperate then turn to such organisations

Agreed. I would have been at least £2k worse off selling mine this week via webuyanycar than selling it via flea bay like I actually did.

Dealers of all types seem to be crying out for used car stock at the minute, so it's even possible trading a car direct to a dealer will get better prices than one of these webuyanycar types.

Been discussed before. I've used one and I thought their valuation was reasonable and it saved me the hassle/cost/time of selling. I've also sold through eBay and been disappointed. Too many variables to generalise.

If you are selling an mainstream older car, say 6-8 years old they may be worth a look. Anyone looking to sell a 2-4 year old car through them are obviously desperate to sell and will be offered an insultingly low value.

We have to give guide prices as it is very difficult to value every car exactly as all cars are different even if they are the same, ie mileage, number of owners, service history etc. The guide price system is the best way to give people an idea of what their car is worth. As stated on the pricing page we value all cars manually, as their cars could be worth more than the amounts shown. This gives us the best chance of giving the customer exactly what they want for their car. We do not in anyway over inflate our prices to let people think they are actually going to get it, (unlike some) nor do we offer insulting prices.

We do however offer the TRADE price of all cars we are offered. We DO NOT buy cars for their retail value. We would soon be out of business if we did. We are an honest and transparent business, privately owned, we do not waste peoples time and we genuinely try to offer our customers as much as we possibly can. Its like everything in life though across the board, you can please some of the people some of the time (We like to think we please the vast majority) but as always you can't please all of the people all of the time.

Our service is a professional, tried, tested and trusted one, our testimonials are all genuine and our customers are overall more than satisfied with the way in which we deal with them.

The price we offer is the price we PROMISE to pay (providing the car is as described)

Our repeat business is growing rapidly.

Because we treat our customers with the respect they deserve we are being approached by more and more people from other car buying websites as a direct result.

We are not in the business of wasting anyones time, we are here to simply offer a service to people who are uneasy with selling their car privately and all the hassle that goes with it.

I hope this has answered your questions and doubts about using our service.

Sincerely

Daniel J Forbes

A quick comment on one of your rivals mentioned elsewhere in this thread...

I'm going on assignment abroad so had to dispose of my wife's 6 month old 2K mile 1.4TSi Golf VI (ouch), we sold it back to the supplying dealer who offered a price which was £2.5K (or 17%) higher than your rival web site, the dealer still retailed it with an additional £2.5K margin.

I suspect that this particular outfit exploit desperate sellers to make super-normal profits (despite their low overheads), net of this is that I'd never consider any web car buying operation, but their derisory offer (and subsequent bombardment with emails) did cause me some amusement, I've now classified them as junk mail....
