04 1.2 Small leak in petrol tank - safe to drive? - d13design
Dear All,

Just noticed a small puddle (and petrol smell) under the rear passenger side wheel. It looks like there's a tiny leak in the side of the tank that can just about be seen through the wheel arch.

We're just about full with petrol and I wouldn't describe this as a major leak(it's also on the opposite side of the car to the exhaust) but was wondering what the feeling was on how safe it would be to drive until I can afford to get the tank replaced at the end of the month.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Dave.

>>on how safe

It's not safe, not at all safe. Get it fixed now.

i wouldnt drive round with this
i would be more concerned with the fumes rather than the risk of a fireball
the fumes kill silently by the way

>>1978 austin 1300, i remember it well, the pipe from the tank to the pump was leaking, petropatch did the job but the fumes nearly did me in.
as i said earlier its the fumes that kill not the flames
op needs a tank

It's a plastic tank. Are you sure you did not brim the car when filling up and then when you parked on your drive it it not nose up and the overflow vent is not dribbling. Regards Peter

Thanks for all the advice. We're going to be cautious and get it sorted (hopefully pay next week). Gave green flag a call and they'll even tow it to the garage for us.

Thanks again,

Dave
