Hello all,
Anybody know how to take the slack out of the accelerator cable on these? Mine has a slight bit of "nothing" before the engine starts picking up which makes it a lumpy drive.
My 1.8GL picks up as soon as you look at the pedal!
Cheers,
James

You need the smallest amount of slack. But if excessive look at the cable to throttle butterfly (engine side). There is a metal slide clip that pulls off. Move the rubber bungee up and down the outer cable. When correct put clip back on outer cable. VW way is to take off clip, and give it full throttle, then put clip back. This can give you more than desired slack tough, although keeps undue strain away from full throttle on the cable and ends.

thanks Woodspeed! I've adjusted it a bit and its better - some more tweaking required!

Also look at pedal end. Big rubber thick washer with a small hole in it. Cable end goes through. This can get enlarged, or the rubber goes very soft, resulting in lost motion. Don't know why but on a Mk2, although the thing looks the same (only pence from VW dealers) it has 2 different part numbers for the 8v or 16v. Believe the 16v one is harder??????? Idea is if you floor it, and cable is too tight, the rubber takes up the high pressure to avoid snapping the cable.

thanks again Woodspeed - one more notch sorted it!
