its a con
brought on by these cars being in demand and low supply
just buy it via a broker such as drivethedeal if you have to
dont sign up to pay the extra 200 quid
or go get a fiat panda!
Are they actually increasing the list price, or is it that they're giving you less of a discount if you don't take out finance with them?
drivethedeal are offering them with a discount and no admin fee :)
take your money there ?
Hyundai London (owned by Hyundai UK) didn't ask for this when we ordered 10 days ago...
I had a similar amount to pay for my new Kia.
My garage claimed it was to prep the car for me (number plates, cleaning and mats).
OTR price should include number plates but not mates etc
2-3 month wait due to demand apparently and the discount is £2250 with the scrappage scheme
Say you will charge them £300 to handle this as YOUR admin fee.
Does this sit with my earlier thread - 'Is there any wonder we are suspicious of dealers?'
A few years ago a garage tried it on with me. They called it a 'bonnet charge' . When I indicated the advertised price on a national website the Manager stated, "You've got me there."
Several months later the same garage contacted me to inquire about my px which was not part of the deal (sold privately). They didn't say much but indicated that they were investigating the dodgy goings on by the previous Sales Manager. No surprise there then. Might be an MP now :-]

The Hyundai Price list shows the price breakdown of the 1.2 Style i10 as follows:
Retail Price 7590.00
Delivery Charges 515.00 (incl number plates)
RFL (VED) 35.00
Ist Reg Fee 55.00
OTR Price 8195.00
You would not normally be charged any additional costs by the dealer for obtaining & preparing the vehicle.
However the price list also uses the word "recommended". Just as manufacturers can't force dealers not to discount, they can't force them not to sell at a higher price either.
I was quoted £5945 OTR with scrappage included.
Went to agree the deal today and test drive only to find an additional £200 admin fee. Like i said before nothing to do with Hyundai, this is the dealers doing.
Supposed to be putting a deposit down tomorrow, i think if the charge is not dropped i shall look else where.
Anyone think they will give in? lol
On Sunday we paid £5,945 for a i10 1.2 Style with no admin fees, not even a credit card surcharge. I would go elsewhere if they don't drop it.
Quick update:
I phoned round a few other dealers within my area and all of them say they dont charge an admin fee.
Ive since been on my dealer and explained this and told them i was unwilling to pay any extra charges. I was told he would speak to his manager and get back to me shortly... that was over 4 hrs ago now lol
Id happily go else where the place that s charging the fee is much closer to me
theres two types of hyundai dealer
cracking and crap
i now always go the further distance if i need anything undi and get a discount
Ive tried getting free metallic paint and car mats thrown in......so far no one is having any of it.
They say the scrappage scheme combined with the demand for this car means they cant offer anything?
I dunno, this will be my first brand new car so dont know what i should be expecting really as far as "discounts" go.
Hyundai London wouldn't budge either.
Look at it this way: They're giving a £1,200 discount against list - in a car that's already pretty cheap. they've been innundated with orders. Why would they offer any more off?
I cannot see how they can charge £200 for an admin fee.... what exactly do they do?
I really do feel its a rip off when other dealers dont charge anything.
So Tesco charges 54p for a tin of Heinz baked beans & ASDA charges 56p. You choose. Same with car dealers.
Same story - I couldn't get any extra discount either - not that I'm the greatest haggler.
