96 2.5 hard to start when warm - Veccy
Hi All,
My friend has a problem with his 2.5 td Omega.
In the morning the glow worm comes on and goes off and the car starts perfect.
He then drives 2 or 3 miles and if he goes in to get the paper comes out the car will take 7 or 8 turns before the car will start even though it is fully warm.
It has been doing this for the last 3 or 4 years and no mechanic can solve.
I would be very grateful if someone could help.

It sounds like the temperature sensor located in the injection pump.
He can be replaced. He the item located where wires attach to the pump.
The BOSCH part number is 2464509015, cost ~£9
Next time, pour a gallon of cool water over the pump then try to start.

I tested one of these a few years ago, which had this problem with a view to buying it, they have a BMW TDS engine. I phoned my local friendly diesel specialists who informed me that its wear in the pump that causes this problem and also suggested the bucket of water method of fault finding. At the time a replacement pump was the only cure but I see someone is now offering on ebay a module that that increases the fueling when hot on a timer which seems to cure the problem. The strange thing is that it seems to aflict the engines in the Omega's more than in the BMW's.
