Good pre-reg price for i30SE? - batesy
I've been looking at buying a new Hyundai i30 1.4 SE. Hyundai have winter discounts at the moment and 10395 OTR for a new one sounds good. However the dealer has a pre-reg 58 plate demonstrator with 1000 miles on the clock. The asking price is 9995 - anybody any idea what a more realistic price would be for bargaining? I'm thinking maybe 9400 but maybe in the current economic climate that is too high. Or maybe I should just buy the brand new one with an 09 plate.

Are you referring to current national advertising? I have not paid such attention to it but £9995 may actually be higher than the advertised new price.

To get a fix, you could compare the price for the Kia equivalent, likely be be less well kitted out but with a longer warranty.

I wanted 1.4 i30 but there were none to be had at the time and I setteld for a 1.6. Hyundais seem to be extremely durable and astonishingly well-equipped for the price. I believe the 1.4 was better reviewed but, from experience with the 1.6, I suggest you avoid larger-wheeled versions as the ride is already rather firm with small ones. I don't much like the gearchange, still notchy after 8,600 miles and reverse is likely to jump out of gear unless I make a very deliberate change. However, it drives well and, with ESP engaged, is quite chuckable. It is a comfotable cruiser but it runs out of push at motorway overtaking speeds.

Ask for a long test drive by yourself. My dealer gave me a whole day and even filled the tank for me.

P.S. I gave fuller details in a review on this site on 20-4-08. Mpg to date is 43.1.

"To get a fix, you could compare the price for the Kia equivalent, likely be be less well kitted out but with a longer warranty."

Comparing my c'eed spec., the only things missing are:

Solar control windscreen (I think)
Tyre pressure monitoring
Windscreen wiper de-icer
Heated front seats

Would agree on the large wheels - have the 17" ones, and it does not ride well on the few sections of bad road we have here.

One problem with Hyundai/Kia, there seems to be no means of varying the options. If you want small wheels you go with the lower trim level.

If you can't save £1,000 off the list price by buying the demo car I'd buy the new one and see if you can get a couple of hundred pounds off or a free first service - no harm in asking! Drive the deal quote 12,200. Not sure I'd want to be the second registered owner and not know who drove the car and how for the first 1,000 miles for the sake of a few hundred pounds saving.

but 9995 may actually be higher than the advertised new price.

The price for the 1.4SE in national advertising is 10395. The dealer is asking 9995 for a pre-reg but I'm unsure how much depreciation you would expect for a pre-reg with 1K miles on the clock?

Interestingly Kia are selling for a 1K premium so not considering.

Happy with the test drive - test drove 1.4SE which has 16inch alloys. Quite firm but big improvement on i20 that I tried. Roads around the test drive were fairly bumpy.
What size do you have on the 1.6?

15".

I should also have mentioned that the engine gets noisy approaching 70 mph. It is also very ease to stall, needing high revs to start. A driving instructor told me this is a feature of 16-valve engines but I have never found it so before.
