Hello
A friend of mine has been quoted £470 (inc VAT)for a cambelt and 100k service on a Focus 1.6. as thi sis a lot of moeny she has asked me to check if this sort of figure is out of line with other's experience. she won't go to an independent so that option is not available. However I winder if people think it is worth trailing around the francvhise network looking for a better deal. Or is that the sort of figure you will have to pay. Seems quite a bit as the car is probably worth less or similar.
Many thanks

If that's a franchised dealer, I think that's actually very reasonable for what is the biggest (and most expensive) scheduled service of the car's life.
Ring a few local dealers by all means, but you'll probably find they're all within a few quid of each other.
I don't know the spec and condition of your friend's car, but it's almost certainly still worth £2k, so well worth spending the money. My beighbour just sold a 40,000 mile 2003 car for £3k within a day of placing the ad.
Cheers

OK many thanks. I suppose if others charge the same it's going to have to be. Just sounds lots of money!

Yes it's a fair bit of cash but your friend won't go to a indipendent garage, so best get there cash out!

In overall terms, believe it or not it's actually cheap. The cambelt service (72k) on our Scenic is £850!
This is when I really miss owning Fords!

Ok thanks. Thank goodness she doesn't have a Renault!

Phone the Ford dealers around your area. Prices do vary.
Ask how much a cam belt job costs and then a service and then the combined jobs.
Push them for cheaper combined price.
A few years ago the prices were online on the Ford website and I trawled them for prices. My local dealer appeared to be the most expensive in the UK.
Another branch of the same co were cheaper.
50 miles from home, by the seaside, service was £75 cheaper.

I had the cambelt (full kit) changed on my 1999 1.8 changed by an indy for £150 a while back, so its always worth checking other dealers. I wouldn't have thought the service would be more than another £200

Hi
I have got a 52 reg Ford Focus 2.0 Ghia and I got a quote from Benfield Ford yesterday for a cambelt change they have quoted £250 which I think is reasonable. My big service is next year and thats £210 so the figure sounds about right. I have read on some other forums that you are best getting the cambelt changed by the dealership. Maybe she could do this and then get a service elsewhere?
