DVLA competition - Ben 10
Buying my car taxes over the phone recently I was prompted to enter a competition to win a Seat Leon they were giving away monthly. This was a free draw.I'm sure many of you also entered as there was no mention of any ties. A totally free option at the end of the call.

Several weeks later I received gumph in the post from Seat. A pure marketing ploy that I found irritating that no mention was made during the call that my details were to be passed on to a third party without my permission. Doublely so, as this is a government department.

In future if the DVLA run any "competitions" they must provide in their message a warning that entering will or will not generate third party land fill dropping through your letter box. This is not done at present, so beware before you enter.

Hve they ? I haven't had anything off Seat despite axing three vehicles in the period that the competition has been running.

I entered this competition after applying for road tax online at the end of December, and haven't heard anything. I did get a phonecall from a Seat garage, but then again, I actually own one, so I guess that's OK :D

Nothing here, 1 x SORN and 1 x tax.

I did mine 6 months ago (as I damn well expected the tax to increase in April and it made a saving to do this) and no Seat bumpf, just taxed again for 12 months and entered again.

I entered a DVLA/Seat competiton 6 months ago via the website and haven't had any phone calls or mail, maybe there was a tick box to opt out, I can't remember.

You can enter the DVLA competitions online without taxing your car, I did this as there was something appealing about entering a competition designed to encourage you to tax your car online without doing so, I taxed it at the post office as usual.

We will keep your information confidential except where disclosure is required or permitted by law (for example to government bodies and law enforcement agencies). Generally, we will only use your information within DVLA, however, sometimes DVLA uses third parties to process your information. The DVLA will require these third parties to comply strictly with its instructions and the Data Protection Act 1998. DVLA service providers are also contractually required

From the link provided - doesn't look as if they share data with Seat.

No Seat guff for me..... but no car either! :-(

IIRC there was a box you could tick to avoid being sent any advertising materials, did you overlook this?

Isn't there something morally wrong about this?
how can a government department attempt to bribe people to obey the law ?

will you give me a TV if i don't drink and drive?

or a new kitchen if i don't murder somebody ???
DVLA competition - Hamsafar
It would only really be a bribe if everyone got the car.
The car is provided free by Seat. It is supposedly to highlight that some cars are in very cheap or free VED bands. I suspect it is also to get people to visit the CAPITA DVLA website and to then renew their tax there instead of via the POST OFFICE.

I've taxed 2 cars online during this competition and had no Seat correspondance/contact.

From the replies it seems it might just be a coincidence. The leaflets arrived about 5 weeks after I taxed and entered the comp.
I have never owned a Seat or requested any brochures of their cars. Strange.
The only connection was this comp. Hence the post.
