Laguna Temperature Gauge - brucel
Hi folks,

I have some strange behaviour from my temp' gauge.

It sometimes moves up very quickly, like quicker than something can actually get hot. It may show a notch or two higher than normal. The fan doesn't kick in well past where it normally would. I suspect a guage fault as the car doesn't seem too hot and the clincher ( I think!) when I turn the engine off and back on straight away, the guage shows normal.

I sat it in the drive and let it get hot to where the fan comes on and it did as expected.

Some intermittent gauge fault or something more serious?

I had the heater matrix changed in April?

All thoughts appreciated.

Cheers,

Bruce.

Hi, Did you ever find the cause of that? I've got exactly the same problem with my Laguna ('98 RT Sport Auto 2 litre) and neither the Renault dealer, cooling specialist, or auto electrician can find the fault. One thing I do know is that the engine is NOT overheating, it's just that the gauge says it is, every now and then. On mine the a/c cuts out when the gauge reaches about 96%, then immediately comes on again when the gauge drops. My email is johnwallis75@hotmail.com

I don't think we will hear from him, he has not posted in the Backroom since.

I had a similar problem on a VW, turned out to be one of the sensors on the engine block.

Sorry, that was a bit sexist, shouldn't assume it was a 'him'...
