Volvo S60 (2000 - 2009) - 2004 D5 Axle Ping

Can anyone advise me of how i can erradicate an intermittent clunk sound from the front suspension. Other forums suggest replacing the drive shaft bolts with the XC90 ones as they have a rubber gromitt which minimise the vibration/noise. However, my local Volvo dealer argues that this is not the prescribed fix, instead they suggest the removal of the drive shaft and a replacing a washer and installing a new bolt at the cost of £120.

Any advice?

I used to notice something like this at low speeds on my 52 S60 D5 when it was still under warranty. I took out one of my dealers techs to demonstrate and before we'd reached the end of the drive, he'd diagnosed worn anti-roll bar drop links. These were duly replaced and I've not heard it since.

Of course, I can't tell without hearing it that yours is the same problem.
