Might seem like an odd post, in view of how many people post with issues related to engine management lights being ON, but I noticed a strange thing tonight:
-when I switch the ignition on, all the dash lamps illuminate- apart from the engine management light.
I've had it 9 months, its done about 86k miles, 3k with me, trouble-free so far, and I've only just noticed this. However, I'm now concerned that the light has been 'got at' and disabled in some way, concealing an engine fault. Anyone think of a way to tell? Get codes read?
I seem to recall a trick you could do by switching the engine off, turning the ignition key, and pressing the trip reset button, which is supposed to display stored codes. Doing this showed up nothing with this car.

TT,
I'll double check later to be sure, but as the car is Diesel, the glow plug lamp is often used as an engine management lamp as well.
I take it that lamp is working?

Thanks for the reply Tony.
yes, the 'glow plug' lamp lights up no problem. Whats puzzling is that the manual
does mention an engine management light on the diesel version- maybe this got revised
though.

We had a TDCi model and I can't recall not noticing the inclusion of an engine management light.
Best to ask the dealer - they're only on the other end of the phone. It has been done to me - either bulb removed or LED covered with insulation tape. In my case the only fault was the glow plugs needed replacing!

Don't know about the light but an '03 diesel shouldn't need one-EOBD on diesels didn't come in till later.
