2007 1.6 auto Tyres - Jim Reaper
Anyone have any experience in pricing tyres for a Nissan Note SE? My wife has one and after a puncture today I noticed that the wear rate seemed excessive at just 12,000 miles.
Worse was finding out that the only manufacturer is the original supplier Continental and their price is £86 per tyre.
The size is 185/55 R16.

Any other owners similarly shocked?

Yes, I found out last week when my wife ran on a flat for 10 miles or so (No we can't just pump it up!) My local cheap tyre fitter charged us £85.00 all in, he apologised for the price which is a first! Our car has done 11k, but the other front looks good for about 5k more miles which is about right for new softer compound tyres.

It would seem there's at least a Goodyear available in that size:

I'd suggest you do some searching on the interweb thingummy.

dunlop, bridgestone, goodyear, continental. these are available at black circle tyres .com i think if you had shopped around instead of buying first you may have found more!

The internet have plenty of companys available inc e bay to buy outright and get fitted but plenty of other outlets.

Even Kwikfit on-line will knock £20 off each corner! Plenty choice in manufacturer

It would seem we are being held to ransome by the tyre/car manufactures who insist on fitting ever more exotic tyres to cars that are used as little more than a family 'run around'.
Once a tyre has been specified there is probably little chance legally of changing the spec. for a cheaper version that will be perfectly adequate for the job.

I include tyre replacement costs in my pre buying analysis: along with reliability and service prices.

Yes I know I'm a boring old....

Yaris tyres were £35 - Bridgstones...

Must be my Scots upbringing..

It's the low profile and the speed rating that bumps up the price, however lots of cars come with v rated tyres only because the dealer got a wopping good deal at the time and h rated tyres will do like the focus we had it would not go over 130mph so h rated is fine.

Fast fit won't tell you that and want to sell the v rated at extra cost, so shop around for best advice.
