i was just wondering about the subject of cats.

In my haynes manual for my K reg Escort it states that all carbed escorts do not have cats fitted. But im sure mine does.

Its a K reg 1.4 CVH engine. Does that mean i can remove the cat from the system? I have heard that for K regs you are allowed to remove it and that it is law for a cat from L reg onwards???

Whats the MOT situation with this?

If your Haynes manual says that you don't have a 'cat' what makes you think that you do? Just interest - I have a 2 ltr diesel Rover and I don't know if it has a cat or not either.

If you are REALLY unlucky and drew the short straw AND got the cack end of the stick your car may be blessed with a loverly electronic carburettor. We changed a fair few of these for standard manually choked carbies and the good news is that you can throw the cat away as the latest MOT emission regs classes K reg as a grey area and does not require a cat test. If your car is running fine then just be thankful and keep everything crossed!Unless the cat is giving you grief leave it be.

its a Nov 92 k reg. 1.4 CVH doesnt seem to be any electronic bits. ie CFI or EFI etc.

Wouldnt i get better fuel consumption without the cat or any other improvements?

Andrew, do you mean K -reg is a grey area for all makes and models, or just this one?
There have been extensive threads on this before, and the reluctant conclusion was I think that with a few very rare exeptions for special cars, K-reg cars have to have a CAT. Or has something changed?

Also, I don't think you can simply throw it away, doesn't the Lamda probe have to go somewhere?
