Should I expect suspension bushes to last more than 20.000 miles They were replaced under warranty at no cost after 30.000 miles. but replacements have just resulted in MOT failure and further warranty work being challenged by dealers

Hi
This is a common problem so much so that even warranty from the dealers was being rejected and so dealers was not being paid for replacing them and the dealers had to take photos of the bush before remove and get it authorised. To fail the bush has to have failed in its operation not just start to come away i.e. the arm is now hitting/ knocking the on the sub frame. If the vehicle was not jacked up and on a flap service the bush would work correctly and has not failed in its operation so should not fail the MOT and is just possibly be an advisory. Depending on driving conditions you could be looking at every 2 years they will need doing if it?s a hard testing station and not following the rules as in the bush has failed in it?s operation. You could look into carbon fibre replacements that I have seen as these have washers on each side to restrict movement.

We have just had MOT (3yr) failed due to the suspension buhes. Car has done 17,000 miles and was 2 days out of warranty - £231.48 bill! Seems quite unreasonable and Chrysler are not interested citing wear and tear - on vehicle with 17,000 miles in 3 years all on road!
I am convinced the parts were faulty or if not the design must be!

HI
Chrysler good will would probably cover this if you have owned it from new and have service history

Hi
This is a very common fault with PT's , some seem to need replaceing every 10.000 miles others seem to last for years ,our car is six years old and had one set, they are very easy to do yourself , you can pick the arms up very cheap now , and easier to replace than the bush, chysler would take the arm off to change the bushes then remove the bush and replace , all takes time , quicker to replace whole arm if you do yourself , or the other way to to use poly bushes , stiffens the ride but last a lot longer
