2005 2Ltr TDI Bad starting - majeka
iI have a Gt Tdi Golf 3 door with 60K on it.

It drives 100% with plenty of power, But starts poor in the morning.

It fires right away but the rpm is down at 600 and it coughts and splutters for two seconds while white smoke is coming out of exhaust.

After all this she idles 100%

Has anyone any ideas.

i have just bought the car and a full 60k service was carried out at 55k 12/07

I have removed the bleed screw from the fuel filter and turned the ign on with my finger covering it and the pressure of the electric lift pump in the tank is identical to a good atarting car.

I'd suspect the coolant temp sensor given this fault, measure the sensor hot and cold with an ohmeter and post up your findings. ;o)

Check the glowplug fuse and relay and the plugs themselves. At present ambient temperatures this engine will start but not idle smoothly without post heat. The white smoke is a give-away for non fuctional post heat. The connections and loom to the plugs are not above reproach on this engine either, but I suspect none of the plugs is getting power - one plug down would be practically undetectable in the Summer.

Thank you i am going to check with test lamp right away,

Do you have resistance values when cold for this switch? would it be 2000-3000 OHM

Would you have a diagram for the glow plugs etc, I have autodata 2004 but it does not cover the Gold 5.

Thanks

Sorry, I haven't any data to hand - on hol.

Be very careful indeed if you decide to remove a glowplug on this engine - do so only if you are sure it needs to come out. They are ceramic-tipped and can easily break.

I Had a look today but couldnt find the glowplugs, I left the trade some 4 years ago and loosing ground slowly. If i can get the cap off if i can find it, I will check for 12+V at the cap with ign on when cold then i will check each glowplug in situ by passing current through an ammeter to the glow plug i know that initial current draw for a glow plug is @13Amps then after a second they are down to 10amps.

Pleae guide me to the dlow plugs 140Bhp engine cross flow not like passat.
