2005 1.2 - Repetative EGR fault - wendy280
My kalos has been back and forwards to a Chevrolet Service Centre for the same EGR fault since I took ownership in Feb 06. The end of Jan 08 the engine valves were replaced as they were 'sticking' and I was assured the fault had now been repaired and I should have no more problems. Unfortunately, just 6 months later, the engine management light is once again illuminated.
Before I get into any discussions with Chevrolet, I was wondering if anyone out there has had the same type of faults and if anything has/was done to rectify them
Thanks.

What was the fault code that they found?

Hi Screwloose,

Unfortunately they did'nt tell me. I had the car when it was 12 months old. From Feb 06 to Jan 08 they replaced the O2 sensor 4 times. As it was coming up to the end of the warranty I got Chevrolet head office involved and the service centre then replaced the engine valves as they said they were sticking and causing the problem with the sensor. The car has been running OK for 6 months, but now the O2 sensor has failed again.
Sorry to be so vague, but I'm not very mechanically minded.
Thanks.

Sounds depressingly like the, now almost usual, case of there being no-one in the dealership that knows what they're doing.

Constantly recurring oxygen sensor codes rarely mean a faulty sensor; they indicate a faulty mixture condition outside normal parameters. Random part replacement is a very inefficient method of tracing such faults.

Ask them for the exact code number.

Thanks for the response. I'm awaiting a response from Chevrolet Head Office, cos as you say, the dealer has no idea what to do!!

hi wendy im not sure if my problem is the same as your but it sounds similar.I own a Kalos 1.2 reg. 2007 had loads of problems with it and it seems my chevrolet dealer cant fix my car either.Since purchacing the car things ive had changed are shock absorbers petrol tank and strapping loads of waxoil to try and stop the knocking and rattling from wherever.replace 2 front tyres after 10,000 m which i found unusual. Now in and out of garage for stuttering problem and had the accelerator body replaced.Took it back and they said the clutch was wearing after 20,000 m.Now a friend of mine thinks its the egr vale but i dont get any engine management light on. Anyway back to the garage on thursday 11 nove ill keep you informed.
