Single men: insure a girl on the car to save money - Mapmaker
Like it says. I saved 20% on my insurance by finding a filly to put on the insurance. Try it for yourself.

This ends the public service broadcast.

I put my Mum on my insurance and it came down by £400!

Unlike you, though (I bet!), I actually let the girl loose with the car. Not least because I feel duty-bound to tell the truth to the Ins Co.

Goodness. I suppose my middle daughter would count as a filly for these purposes but you wouldn't let her loose in a car you liked unless you were sitting beside her with an electric cattle prod.

She uses it occasionally, its handy to have. I'd have put the girlfriend on but she refuses to drive it!

Whether they actually ever drive the car or not is completely irrelevant.

This trick works for youngsters too - put an older person on as a named driver and the premium generally drops. Admiral are noted for doing that.

Indeed Mapmaker. I discovered that too last year to my surprise. Superficially to a male chauvinist type it is counter-intuitive.

Cunning chaps these actuaries, and bang up to the minute politically too.

Make sure the filly isn't an Aries:

I spent a long time tweaking and testing quotes a week ago.
Group 15 car £397 with just me £1,656 with girlfriend who is 20!
Even with my retired teacher mother, it would go up £20.

These tricks are often discussed in Moneysavingexpert forums.

Basically when you add a female, overall risk is usually reduced.

And if you add your wife, it is even less risk.

Yes, my insurance dropped when I added my wife to the policy - clearly I am now a much more responsible, considerate and safer driver. However, as the OP refers to single men does it also drop if you add someone elses wife??

Am I?!

Oh, ok, then!!

A friend of mine who was born on the same day but different year is very much the opposite of my driving style, so perhaps these genralisations don't hold much water....

Or perhaps they got it wrong and it should be the Chinese "Year" they were born under rather than the month - that would explain the difference!!

er no. I put my mother on my car insurance and it went up! But she had an SP30. Taking her off saved me money! She's retired and just over 60 so it must be something to do with age of a female. However, putting a wife on the insurance would please her especially if I actually had a wife ;-)

Sheepdog

Keep paying high insurance -it's cheaper than having a wife.

Lud observed some posts back:

Which gives me a flimsy excuse to throw in the old joke that actuaries are people who find accountancy too exciting to take on as a career.

Yep, for a couple of years I resisted putting my girlfriend on as a named driver because I thought any named driver would increase the premium. Then I bit the bullet, and my premium came down £60.
She put me on her insurance, and hers went up £40..

Perhaps insurance companies aren't as foolish as they might sometimes appear...:-)

Girls are only insured on cars at motorshows. Otherwise it's safer to ride inside.
Single men: insure a girl on the car to save money - welshlad
do you actually have to know the girl or can you use a phone book and a pin to find one that way they will never know and the car will remain free of those little female touches (i.e dents and scratches)

This trick does not always work. When I asked my insurer to add my ex wife so that she could borrow the car it doubled the premium - I just told her she couldn't borrow it.

Similar things happen in other areas of insurance. I was renewing our annual travel policy a few years ago and was quoted a premium that I was about to agree to. Then happened to mention (not sure why this hadn't come up previously) that the policy would now be covering not two people but three - the third then a few months old. Suddenly the premium fell by about a quarter.
