2008 1.3 diesel, any problems - Crinkly Dave
Thinking of getting one of these on employers scheme and perhaps hanging on after 3 years.
I have read HJ's guide, but wondered if anyone had any ideas about reliability of the engine, and why they got rid of the 85 bhp model. About a 1.6 diesel/100bhp would be more ideal

Solid enough engine, but I too would want something a bit bigger in a GP. I'd heard that the more powerful variant was a bit lag-prone.

Funnily enough I read (possibly on here) that a 1.6 Multijet is coming out in the Bravo very shortly (if it hasn't already) and perhaps it is also going to be making an appearance in the GP. That would certainly explain them dropping the 85 bhp 1.3.

My Dad has this car with the 1.9 120 bhp Multijet engine on an 06 plate and it has been absolutely fine apart from a dodgy boot lock, now fixed.

There is a recent thread in the discussion forum discussing the huge lag before 2k on these 1.3 cdti engines at 90ps, so its definately worth a look into and a test drive to see if you'd be ok with that kind of power delivery.

thanks guys.
Will road test in June (off to the sun) and news of a possible 1.6 version may defer decision until after heart valve op

Have been reliably informed that the 1.6 Multijet will appear in the Grande Punto by the end of the year. It will also appear in the new Alfa MiTo baby hatch early next year I am told.
If they are the same as fitted to the Bravo, these will have 105bhp/120bhp with over 200lb/ft of torque from 1500 RPM. Should be a good engine in the GP.
I was going to buy a 1.3 90bhp GP just before the engine was dropped in early 2007. I was told that terminal turbo lag had killed it along with the fact that it did not break into the "B" Tax band. The 75bhp version would be a bit small for my needs so I am still looking.

Hi guys. Decision deferred as old 1.7 Punto kept on running well, but now needs at least one rear axle assembly. Have decided to see if it will fail just on this, as local garage has quoted a maximum of £100 all in, so will have someone take it on 20 August to decide.

Anyway, has the 1.6 multijet that was in the Bravo been fitted in the revised Grande Punto? Anyone give me a Link to the correct page.

For mainly me, I thought the 2 door Grande Punto roomier than the Bravo.

Thanks again.

After ordering a new Series 2 version of the 1.9 diesel Grande Punto Sporting back in June, I've today been informed that the 1.9 version has been discontinued - and is now replaced with a 1.6litre 16v version.

I assume this is the same engine as from the Bravo.

The salesperson seemed to allude that all Series 2's will now come with this engine instead of the 1.9...

Looking at the Lancia Delta engine lineup, the lower powered diesel engine is the 1.6 with 120PS, next is the 2.0 with 165PS and the performance model is a 1.9 twin-turbo with 190PS. Only one petrol engine exists, the 1.4 in either 120 or 150PS.
Must be going diesel for the CO2 ratings...

I doubt the 2.0 or 1.9 will make it into the GP with possibly the 2.0 making it into the Bravo.

Thanks for the feedback. Just been on the FIAT homepage and only diesels for Punto are still 1.3 and 1.9. Looks like trip over to the dealer

The series 2 model just launched has a 5 year warranty - so make sure they don't fob you off with the 'old' model! :-)
