Tyre wear prone models ? - mattoutthere
Hi all - looking to buy a Mazda 5.

Hoping someone can confirm: avoid sports model as they are the ONLY models to suffer excess tyre wear...?

I think my 'ideal' model is a 55-56 2.0 D in TS or TS2 or Furano guise....

Looking at £10k.

It was a wheel/tyre size related issue on the 205/55/17s Dunlop SP2050 tyres. Furano has that size. Seems now to have been cured by new geometry settings.

I bought a brand new Mazda5 1.8 TS in September 2005. This wore it's front tyres out in well under 10K miles and had all the usual faults - creeking front suspension /excessive tyre wear. It was eventually fixed under warranty, but the dismissive attitude of both Mazda and my local dealer left me swearing never to consider another Mazda.

Tyre wear is a known issue on the Sports model which has the low profile tyres. It is not that common on TS or TS2 models.

Advice you to go for TS2 which is hugely better equipped that the basic TS.

I have a 1.8 TS2 but have not done enough mileage yet. Love the handling and ride. Much better than the basic Zafira i tried.

I purchased a Mazda 5 sport in September 2005, tyre wear back and front was horrendous, one even blew out after the garage re-alligned wheels. We got so fed up that we traded it in and on the garage's assurance that the problems were solved, bought another one.
This was a big mistake, same problem all over again, garage dismissive and says all MPV's are the same.
We shall not be buying another Mazda.
