(88-95) 1.7 Isuzu Diesel - Wiring Diagram wanted - grahamwh
We are putting the 1.7 Isuzu diesel out of a cavalier into a Suzuki based off road special. We have the whole cavalier the engine came out of but need a wiring diagram to work out the alternator and other bits and bobs as they don't look straightforward, seems to be some kind of relay in the alternator circuit. we bought what claimed to be Vauxhall service manuals off of ebay for £5 (distinctly dodgy) and now know how to do all sorts of things we don't need to, but no wiring diagram.

Anyone any idea where we can get a wiring diag from?

Cheers

Unless you have a particular reason to use that alternator/pump set-up; then bin it for a conventional alternator.

Vauxhall made a pig's breakfast of adapting a Japanese charging system to a Euro-standard dash - hence the awful charge-light relay lash-up.

The best diagram that I've seen of the charging circuit alone is on the info sheet that comes with a Blue-Print exchange alternator. Maybe it's available for download on ADL's website - if not; ask your local factors if they can run you off a copy.?

we need the vacum pump for the brakes so we wanted to use this alternator, also want the rev counter drive.

Mind you we might find another way if it really is that bad.

Anyone else got any ideas

Just had a dig round in the scrap bin at work and w ehave found a Nissan Cabstar alternator that has the vacum pump on the back and will fit so now all we need to do is work out how to get the rev counter wired.

Thanks

What external wiring does that one show on it's label? The rev info comes from a phase tap off one phase of the winding, pre-rectifier.

If you can see the three winding tails where they connect [soldered] to the rectifier pack; then solder on a tap there and see if that suffices.
