The scabby black/brown stains that appear on number plates. I posted on this a few years back. The disease only seems to affect rear yellow plates making them unsightly and possible cause of mot failure. Do not see so many problems on recent cars. Has medical science found a cure or have the people making them finally got the hang of it. Also why did it not infect front white plates? I would have thought thet were more vulnerable to the elements.

There still seem to be a lot about in these parts.

Bring back silver on black. that would cure it.

Number plate disease may go the same way as white dog poo. Come on, who remembers white dog poo....like chalk? Never see it any more. How many children of the 50's and 60's remember it.

Funnily enough I was thinking the very same thing the other day when out with the dogs, turned a corner and there was the classic white dog poo ! Declined after bonemeal disappeared from the markets.
Poor lamination I fear causes number plate disease, a well known out of town car-part retailer where I re-plated a motor cycle I was selling did a dreadful job.

Do you know if the Secureplate fitted by companies like Kwikfit suffer from this problem ?

There are firms that will make METAL reflective plates that meet all the regs.

100% correct!
The old British disease of the plonker who is making them not doing a proper job, (or not knowing how to do a proper job). Just plain bad workmanship.
If the inside face of the clear plastic is totally clean, there is no reason for the plate to de-laminate. Modern adhesives are fantastic if the right procedure is followed.
I work as an engineer Europewide and the varying levels of workmanship I witness (usually in the UK) sometimes make me want to cry. I'm afraid it appears to me that it is a "that will do" attitude, rather than a "that is a proper job" attitude?
I'll get off my soapbox now.

Number plates, Nick 62 is spot on.
The subject of white dog excrement.
That was down to what the dog was fed.
Dogs were once fed a lot more bones and offal to eat.
You never saw a fat dog/cat either did you?
I still buy offal & bones for my dogs, so on my garden there is?..
