BMW iDrive: USB/iPod cable/ functionality query - Mercian
I don't have an iPod but, having not got around to it, finally intend to get one to use in conjunction with the optional USB/Aux port I have had fitted in my recently delivered car.

BMW provide a "special" lead combining the USB and aux jack on a single lead for use specifically with the iPod, and which apparently provides most of the functionality of the iPod via the iDrive, but this costs £40, which seems a bit steep.

I understand I can just use a standard aux lead for play back through the hi fi and
I am not too bothered about having all the functionality via the iDrive but don't know whether there is a cheaper pattern lead available that provies some or similar functionality, or whether I have to cough up for the BWM lead?

I am not being a tightwad but I am also not technically up to speed on such matters, so any guidance would be gratefully received!!

£205 for the USB/Audio port and they want another £40 for the cable? I can't wait.
