1996 1.5 TD - Coolant temperature gauge reading - philjenk
I have been trying to fathom out a problem with my water temperature gauge. The water temperature has never risen above 90oc on the guage. According to the owners manual normal operating coolant temperature should be half way on the gauge (95oc)

Could this be the temperature sender, and does anyone know if they are prone to failure on these Corsa's? Or is this just another great Vauxhall flaw!

Thanks

{Car make/model excluded from the header as this is put in by the choice you made from the drop down menu. Thanks for putting in year and engine details - quite a few don't. Have added a brief summary of the nature of your car's problem, as you failed to submit that for some reason}

The gauges are not that accurate.

As long as it's not sitting on "cold", the heater is hot and the fuel consumption normal, don't worry about it.

An indication of a fault is when the gauge suddenly starts behaving differently rather than what it actually reads (subject to the suggestion above)

Thank you. I thought that might be the case as the temperature range between almost top and almost bottom is only 10oc. so there is quite alot of chance for inaccuracy.

90 deg C is very good. What is more important is how long it takes to actually get to this figure. If more than 5 to 10 mins on a cold day, then you *could* be looking at a failed thermostat.

Plus its a diesel which are more thermally efficient. I know when its sub zero and I'm idling at the lights the temp gauge actually starts to drop slowly.
